Henri Saivet (11/01/2016)
Henri signed for Newcastle on the 11th January 2016; our first signing of the January transfer window. Brought through the youth academy at French side Bordeaux he made his professional debut in 2007 and went on to make 178 appearances in all competitions, netting 23 times. The versatile midfielder has played forward, wing and more recently holding midfield for his former side; recently taking the captain’s armband. Having represented several French youth sides he chose to represent his native Senegal in 2013 and his made 9 appearances to date.
Jonjo Shelvey (12/01/2016)
Jonjo Shelvey joined NUFC on the 12th on January, just 1 day after the announcement of Henry Saivet. The England international joins for an estimated £12m fee, signing a 5-year deal. Amazingly Jonjo is the first player to join us for a fee from a domestic side since Gabriel Obertan in 2011 and the first English player to join us since Mike Williamson in 2010.
Andros Townsend (27/01/16)
Andros Townsend joins Newcastle from Spurs for an estimated £12m fee, amazingly he is the second England international to join the club this transfer window. Andros had been at Spurs since the age of 8 (although NUFC is his 11th club of his career, having been loaned to 10 different clubs between 2009-2013) and has made 93 appearances and netted 10 in all competitions, having only recently fallen out of favour at Tottenham. A pacey, old fashioned attacking winger and aged only 24, expectations are high for the English international (10 apps, 3 goals).
Seydou Doumbia (01/02/2016)
28-year old Seydou Doumbia has joined NUFC on a 6-month loan deal from AS Roma, with an option to buy. A powerful, quick Ivorian international forward with a Champions League pedigree Seydou joins us on the back of an unsuccessful 12 month at Roma, following an £11m move from CSKA Moskow. He shot to prominence to warrant such a fee in the Swiss & Russian leagues, netting 57 in 78 for BSC Young Boys & 84 in 129 for CSKA Moscow. Having spent the last 6 month back at CSKA on loan (scoring 11 in 21), Seydou joins a misfiring NUFC front line; hopefully he can replicate his form in Switzerland and Russia – and fast.
